Cabinet Refinishing for Huntington Beach homes

Huntington Harbour homes sit on the water and take the hardest salt exposure in the county. Anything wood facing the channel needs checking every repaint cycle, and railings and trim usually need work before the walls do.

Kitchens in Huntington Beach reflect when the homes went up. Beach cottages, 1960s tract homes, and waterfront properties in the Harbour. In most cases the boxes are sound and only the finish has dated.

Neighbourhoods we work in: Downtown, Huntington Harbour, Seacliff, Bolsa Chica.

Kitchens in a humid climate

Coastal kitchens carry more moisture than inland ones, and cabinet finishes are less forgiving than walls. A coating that stays soft will block against the frame and mark with a fingernail, which is what happens when wall paint gets used on cabinetry.

Doors come off, get degreased, filled, primed with a bonding primer and sprayed flat, then cure properly before they go back on. We tell you exactly how long to wait before heavy use, because rushing that is what causes chipping.

What the job includes

Label and removeEvery door and drawer front numbered so it returns to the opening it came from.
Degrease and deglossKitchen grease is why cabinet paint peels. Everything is cleaned and scuffed before primer.

Bonding primerA primer specified for cabinetry, not a general wall product.
Sprayed doorsSprayed flat off site or in a controlled area so the finish has no brush marks.

HardwareExisting hardware refitted, or new hardware installed if you are changing it.
Cure guidanceWe tell you exactly how long to wait before heavy use, because cabinet finishes cure slowly.

Questions about cabinet refinishing in Huntington Beach

How long does a kitchen take?

Most kitchens run four to seven days including cure time. You keep use of the kitchen for most of it.

Can you paint laminate or thermofoil?

Laminate yes, with the right bonding primer. Thermofoil that is already peeling has to be assessed in person.

Will it chip?

Not with correct prep and a cabinet grade coating. Chipping is almost always a prep failure, usually skipped degreasing.

Can you change the colour completely?

Yes. Dark wood to white is the most common request and it is very doable, it just takes an extra coat.
