Stucco Repair and Texture Matching
Cracks opened, patched and hand textured to match the wall around them, so the repair disappears under paint.
A bad patch is worse than the crack
Orange County is a stucco county. Almost every home here has it, and almost every home eventually cracks, because stucco moves with heat and settlement and it always has.
The failure is rarely the patch itself. It is that the patch was troweled smooth and left as a flat rectangle in a textured wall. Once paint goes over it the repair is more obvious than the crack ever was. Matching the texture by hand is the whole job.
What the job includes
Every item below is in the written quote. Nothing here is an upsell later.
Why stucco cracks in Orange County
The same house painted the same way fails differently depending on where in the county it sits.
Thermal movement
Inland walls in Anaheim, Brea and Yorba Linda can swing forty degrees in a day. Stucco expands, contracts and eventually opens at its weakest point.
Settlement
Hillside communities across South Orange County settle for years after building. Diagonal cracks from window and door corners are the classic sign.
Water intrusion
Once a crack is open, water gets behind the stucco and into the paper and framing. That turns a cosmetic job into a structural one.
What moves the price
- How many cracks and how far they run
- Whether the texture is a common knockdown or something harder to match
- Depth of the repair and how many coats it needs to build
- Whether the wall needs an elastomeric coating to stay closed
- Access and height
Stucco is quoted after seeing the wall. Texture matching is skill work and the price depends entirely on what is already there.

Questions about exterior painting
Will the repair be invisible?
From normal viewing distance, yes, that is the standard we work to. Under raking sunlight at close range a repair is always findable, and anyone claiming otherwise is overselling.
Will the crack come back?
A properly opened and keyed repair stays closed. On walls that genuinely move we specify an elastomeric coating to accommodate it.
Do I need to repaint the whole wall?
Usually yes, corner to corner. Spot painting a repair leaves a visible patch even when the texture matches perfectly.
Can you match a lace or dash finish?
Yes. Knockdown, lace, dash, sand and smooth are all matched by hand on site.
How long before it can be painted?
Depends on depth and weather, typically several days. We do not rush cure time.
Do you spray or backroll stucco?
Both, on the same wall. We spray for coverage then immediately backroll by hand so the coating is worked into the texture rather than sitting on top of it. Backrolling is what makes paint actually adhere to stucco, and it is the step most crews skip. We are not spray and go painters.
